A rooftop running track will be one of the more unusual features of a new £120m residential development in Liverpool.

Jarron Developments has started site enabling and demolition works at the Pumpfields site in Leeds Street on the edge of the city centre. Originally called Metalworks and now renamed The Forge, the scheme will offer 400 homes including apartments and townhouses.

Demolition and site clearance works will begin in the coming months, following the submission of a Section 80 Notice to Liverpool City Council.

Removal of the former Marble Hall Café and clearance of the site will mark the official start of the pre-construction phase for The Forge, paving the way for a major brownfield regeneration project that will deliver 400 high-quality apartments and townhouses in the Pumpfields area of the city.

Will Clarke, development director at Jarron, said: “The start of demolition and site clearance works is a major milestone for The Forge and brings us one step closer to delivering much-needed, high-quality urban living in Liverpool city centre.

“The Forge will be a transformative development for the area, and clearing the site paves the way for an exciting residential project that will offer exceptional living standards while contributing to the continued regeneration of this vital urban corridor.”

Designed by Liverpool architectural practice Falconer Chester Hall, The Forge will offer residents access to a range of shared wellness, workspace and social facilities, including a residents’ lounge, cinema and dedicated fitness hub.

It will also feature a panoramic rooftop terrace, complete with Liverpool’s first rooftop running track. Further updates on the construction timeline for The Forge will be announced in the coming weeks.
