A Liverpool manufacturer and supplier of ceramic tile adhesives and DIY solvents and chemicals has defied a “challenging market” to grow sales and profits.

Speke-based Palace Chemicals has filed its accounts for the 12 months to August 31, 2025, on Companies House. They show an 11.2% rise in revenues to £32.4m and a 26% surge in pre-tax profits to £6.3m.

This has led to a bumper payout for principal shareholder Charles Clapham. Palace paid £1.4m in dividends to a holding company called Micrown controlled by Charles. It in turn paid out dividends of £535,245.

Employing almost 100 people, Palace was established in 1978 and is a leading UK manufacturer and supplier of ceramic tile adhesives and building chemical products for the building and DIY industry.

Its building chemicals are used for adhesives and coatings as well as timber care and treatment. It also makes DIY fillers and sealants, paint remover and a number of other products.

Writing in the annual report, Charles Clapham said: “As shown in the company’s statement of comprehensive income, revenue for the year has increased by 11.2%.

“In the challenging market conditions that existed in the year, in addition to continued pressure of employment costs, the directors consider this to be a very strong performance.

“The company continues to maintain strong controls over fixed costs and other overheads while also investing in manufacturing capability, quality, marketing and research and development to enable it to achieve its profitability targets.”

In May 2025 Palace won the Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the 2025 DIY Week Awards in London for its work on reducing the environmental impact of its production processes and making its energy usage more sustainable.
