Aldi opens its 10th supermarket in Liverpool at the end of this month and is still looking to fill eight of the 33 jobs being created.

Team GB 400m runner and Commonwealth bronze medallist, Kelly Massey, will cut the ribbon on the store in Speke Hall Road in Speke on June 30. The German value retailer is fast approaching the 1,000 UK stores milestone.

Aldi, which now operates more than 900 stores in the UK, was also ranked in first place on Monday for treating its suppliers fairly. This was according to a poll from sector regulator the Groceries Code Adjudicator.

Ahead of the opening of the new Liverpool outlet, Aldi says store manager Sarah McGuiness is still looking to fill eight roles. The roles are five store assistants, two store apprentices and one store caretaker. Find out more information by clicking here.

At the opening ceremony Kelly will also give away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue. She said: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB.”

Aldi is also calling on local charities and food banks in Speke to register with Neighbourly. This is a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to seven days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store can email aldi@neighbourly.com

Sarah McGuiness added: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Speke. It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Kelly Massey join us will make it a morning to remember.”
