A recruitment day is being held later this month to fill almost 200 vacancies at Liverpool John Lennon Airport ahead of the busy summer season. Tony McDonough reports
Almost 200 jobs are on offer at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) and a recruitment day is being held on Tuesday, February 14, to fill the vacancies.
LJLA is gearing up for what is likely to be its busiest summer season since before the pandemic. Airlines are increasing routes and capacity to meet surging demand. This week Ryanair announced four new routes out of Liverpool for the summer.
The recruitment day will run from 10am until 4pm in the terminal building. A host of employers based at the airport will be on hand all looking to fill mainly full-time vacancies.
These include handling agent Swissport, aviation security company Wilson James, catering company SSP, passenger assistance company ABM and retailers such as Boots and duty free shop operator Dufry.
Anyone interested in a career at the Airport will be able to come along and talk to representatives from each of the companies. Some employers will be looking to undertake interviews on the day. Appointments are not required in advance.
A range of job opportunities are currently available at the airport including aviation security officers, handling agent passenger services roles, baggage handling, passenger assistance for people with disabilities, catering and related front of house roles, bar work and retail work.
LJLA held a similar event last year with almost 1,000 attendees coming along on the day. Many queued out of the door at the start, wanting to find out about the job opportunities available.
The success of that event meant staffing levels across the business were in place in time for the busy summer season and helped to avoid many of the problems faced by other UK airports in 2022. LJLA won Best UK Airport accolade in the 2022 Which? airport survey.
Carol Dutton, Liverpool Airport’s HR and community director, said: “Following the success of last year’s event, we are once again opening our doors.
“Anyone considering a career at the airport can find out about a host of positions currently available across a diverse range of employers.
“We look forward to welcoming lots of applicants with many hopefully starting work here in the coming weeks for different employers, all with the common goal of giving our passengers the best possible airport experience.”
For those using public transport to travel to the event, a number of bus services call at the airport. Nearby Liverpool South Parkway provides a link to the region’s rail network. Complimentary parking will also be available for those traveling by car.
