Developer Anwyl Partnerships has submitted plans for a multi-million pound Liverpool city scheme to deliver 79 new homes. Tony McDonough reports
A new multi-million pound Liverpool city region development will see the construction of 79 new homes, including retirement apartments and houses.
Anwyl Partnerships, specialists in the provision of residential land and build developments, has submitted a planning application to create 79 new homes on a recently acquired site in a location off Cowley Hill Lane in St Helens.
The plans include 54 retirement apartments and 25 houses at a currently derelict site. The site has remained vacant for several years, where previous planning applications have encountered problems inhibiting delivery.
It is the latest development in a number of schemes brought forward by North Wales-based Anwyl in Liverpool city region. In August, the company started work on an £8.5m extra care living project in Wirral.
And in April the business said it was on track to complete a £14m Liverpool city region housing scheme after the original contractor collapsed into administration.
This latest St Helens site formerly housed buildings owned by the NHS and site enabling works started in 2018 ahead of residential development. However, the original scheme was deemed to be “unviable” and the site has remained vacant ever since.
Sam Oliver, senior land manager at Anwyl Partnerships, said: “Our proposals respond to the key post pandemic drivers, which is to provide a broad mixture of tenures, all underpinned by strong design to truly create balanced communities.
“We had positive engagement throughout our public consultation earlier in the year. We have also benefited from constructive input from council stakeholders whilst developing our brief.
“The site has great physical attributes and we have sought to optimise these by retaining all existing trees, whilst also identifying further strategic locations for additional tree planting and landscaping.’’
