Laura Worthington has spent 10 years building up her Liverpool business Laura’s Little Bakery and now it, and her family home, have been destroyed by fire and an appeal has been launched
An appeal has been launched after Liverpool’s favourite cake-maker Laura Worthington saw her home and business destroyed in a devastating fire.
On Monday morning, mum-of-four Laura woke at 7am to find her home at Sandown Lane Wavertree engulfed in black smoke. The house is not just where her family lives but is also where she has run her business – Laura’s Little Bakery – for 10 years.
It is believed the blaze may have started due to a defective microwave although the precise cause has yet to be established. Laura’s partner, Thomas Dodson and her daughter, Phoebe Cowin, needed hospital treatment for smoke inhalation and shock.
Laura has spent the past decade building up her reputation in the North West as a leading cake baker and designer and has worked tirelessly to build her thriving business.
The fire destroyed not only her home, furniture and many of the families possessions but also her baking and storage equipment, which has taken many years to amass along with all of her stock for her packed order book.
She said “While I am obviously beyond relieved that my family are safe and they will always be my priority, to see your home and your business quite literally destroyed before you is something I will cannot describe and I am not sure how or when I will come to terms with this.
“Laura’s Little Bakery has been my dream business and one which has given my family everything they need. I have worked so hard for so long and this is a bitter and difficult blow to come to terms with.
“My loyal customers are so supportive and the thought of not being able to fulfil their orders is literally making the whole situation unbearable. I will do everything I can to make sure people re refunded and orders replaced locally with other cake bakers.
“I am still in shock and have no idea what the future holds. I am just grateful that my family are safe and I will most definitely be hugging them a little tighter as they go to bed this evening.”
Laura’s friend, Liz Taylor, has set up a Just Giving Page to help Laura, who has a reputation locally for her charitable nature as one of the founding members of Global Scouse Day and Donate a Cake initiative.
Liz added: “Laura and Tom are always looking to see how they can help other people and support needy causes, well now they need our support, so if you can put even the smallest donation in, it would be appreciated.”
