Average salaries in Liverpool were 7.2% higher in September compared to the same month in 2017, figures from an independent jobs site reveal.

CV-Library is one of the biggest jobs sites in the UK with a database of more than 13m CVs and data from its own files shows the average annual salary in Liverpool in September was £31,390.

Workers in the city saw the fourth-highest year-on-year rise in the country, beaten only by Edinburgh at 11.8%, Manchester 11.3% and Brighton which saw a rise of 8.3%. It was level with Hull on 7.2%, and beat Nottingham at 6.8%, Leeds 5%, Sheffield 4.9%, Glasgow 4% and London which only saw a rise of 3.7%.

However, Liverpool’s average salary figure does lag behind several cities with London workers receiving an average of £38,370 and in Manchester £34,120. Job vacancies in Liverpool also saw an increase in September, rising 13.3% year-on-year.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, said: “Pay is on the up, meaning many professionals in Liverpool may be finding themselves in a better financial position than they were this time last year.

“And the good news doesn’t stop there, this growth massively outpaces the national inflation rate, which currently sits at 2.5%.

“This jump in salaries could be a direct result of ongoing skills shortages, which are forcing businesses to pull out all the stops to attract and secure talented new employees. What’s more, with unemployment at its lowest level since 1975, businesses are having to offer the most competitive packages if they wish to convince candidates to begin moving around the job market right now.”
