Liverpool law firm Brabners has unveiled partner Ruth Hargreaves as its new head of corporate.

Ruth, who has been with Brabners since 2017, will replace Mark Rathbone as head of the 76-strong corporate team in a planned succession. In its most recent accounts the firm reported the team had advised of £762m worth of deals in one year.

She trained at Brabners before moving in-house as senior legal counsel at global technology company TomTom. She returned to the firm in 2017 as a senior associate.

“It’s a privilege to take on the role of Head of Corporate at such an exciting point in the team’s development,” said Ruth.

“We’re operating in a challenging environment, but there’s still capital in the market and a clear appetite among ambitious businesses and investors to pursue the right opportunities.

“We’re seeing signs of cautious optimism, with continued activity across private equity, owner-managed businesses and key sectors including technology, sport and healthcare. The issue for many now is confidence.”
