Brazilica Festival returns in 2017 for tenth consecutive year

Last year’s festival featured a series of events leading up to the main Carnival Day on the Saturday. This year, organisers have promised the Brazilian celebration will be bigger and more colourful than ever. Andrew Wright reports.

Liverpool Carnival Company has announce popular Liverpool event, Brazilica Festival, will return for 2017 and celebrate a tenth consecutive year in the city.

This year’s dates have been confirmed as July 14-16.

Organisers have revealed that the Brazilian Film Festival will also return for a third consecutive year, alongside a Fringe Festival offering exhibitions and workshops.

Artists and bands from around the world have been confirmed to take part, with events taking place in venues across the city.

The night-time Carnival Parade, which features Samba bands from across the UK and overseas, will remain the showpiece on the Saturday night. It will see thousands of people lining the route as it makes its way from Abercrombie Square through the city centre.

Maeve Morris of Liverpool Carnival Company said: “I am continually delighted with the support we receive from the Liverpool people towards the festival, last year’s parade was without doubt our biggest and best. This year is going to be just as spectacular with the city coming alive with the sound of the Brazilian beat. Music, dance and costumes create the overall atmosphere of this event and we are already in full preparation mode to ensure we deliver a special festival for our tenth anniversary year.”

Full programme details to be announced soon.
