Heating and ventilation trade supplier Smith Brothers Stores leaves premises in Wirral and takes up residence at 21,000 sq ft property in Liverpool docklands. Tony McDonough reports
Heating and ventilation trade supplier Smith Brothers Stores (SBS) is to open up a new trade counter on Derby Road in Liverpool’s northern docklands.
SBS is leaving its previous home in Birkenhead and will begin trading from its new Liverpool home on June 8. Property agents at Legat Owen secured the deal for the move at the former HSS premises.
This deal, which sees SBS agree a 10-year lease, represents a successful conclusion for Leicester-based SBS to its search for bigger premises. Its former space, called Turbine 6, comprises 15,593 sq ft of space and will be marketed by Legat Owen this summer.
David Bryson, financial director at SBS, said: “This relocation marks an important step in the continued growth of Smith Brothers Stores.
“The new Liverpool premises give us the additional space we need to expand our stock range, improve availability and provide a better overall service to our customers through an enhanced trade counter facility.”
A refurbishment of the premises was managed by Jon Hardie of Legat Owen’s building surveying team, delivered in time to meet SBS’s operational needs prior to occupation.
Legat Owen director Mark Diaper added: “We had very strong interest in the unit from a variety of users with the quality of the Smith Brothers Stores brand suiting the landlord’s vision for the premises.

“This letting reflects both the great location of the property and SBS’s strong growth and increased customer demand.”
Following the relocation, Legat Owen has been retained as agent for Turbine 6. The property comprises a modern trade counter / industrial unit on Turbine Road fronting the A41 New Chester Road.
