Independent coffee shop operator Bean has is to grow its footprint in Liverpool’s central business district with a new outlet at office building 20 Chapel Street.

Liverpool-based Bean, which has a number of coffee shops across the North West, has agreed a deal with building owner Canmoor to take 1,300 sq ft of space on the ground floor.

Canmoor purchased the 155,000 sq ft 20 Chapel Street last year for just under £20m on behalf of British Airways Pension Trustees and is undertaking a £3m refurbishment.

The coffee shop, due to open in September, is Bean’s fourth in the central business district with current outlets at Princes Dock, St Paul’s Square and Exchange Station.

Bean was also the official coffee supplier for the Liverpool stand at MIPIM 2017 in Cannes.

Director and co-founder, Jon Whyte, said: “We’ve already had positive feedback from current tenants at 20 Chapel Street who are excited to see Bean opening in their building.

“The new café will follow a similar industrial design to our outlets in Exchange Station and St Paul’s Square serving hot and cold drinks, fresh lunches and snacks.”

The refurbishment of 20 Chapel Street, whose tenants include Liverpool FC and Barclays, will also include security turnstiles, additional formal reception seating and a new front of house desk facility.

Canmoor director Sam Walker added: “The addition of a café operator was an important part of our refurbishment plans to give tenants a new amenity and create more of a community within the building.”

Worthington Owen acted for Canmoor on the deal, and they have recently been joined by CBRE as joint agents on the remaining 25,000 sq ft of refurbished offices.
