North West construction businesses gather in Liverpool to back campaign by TV fitness legend Mr Motivator to tackle the growing crisis of child bed poverty. Jennie Lewis reports
Businesses from across the construction industry came together in Liverpool for a “high-energy” fundraising event in support of Mr Motivator’s Bed Bank campaign.
This campaign sees the TV fitness legend look to tackle the growing crisis of child bed poverty across the UK. The Liverpool event was organised by the Rise Construction Framework.
Mr Motivator aims to raise awareness about the fact that there are almost 1m children across the UK who do not have a bed to sleep in. The event featured 97 businesses from across the construction industry, as well as Mr Motivator himself, who hosted his first ever Bedbank fitness fundraiser at Boxpark, Liverpool.
Mr Motivator (real name Derrick Evans) said: “No child should be going to sleep without a bed of their own. It affects their health, their confidence and their future. The energy around this event is amazing.
“Seeing businesses and communities come together like this shows what is possible when people genuinely care and take action.”
The event included music from a live DJ and dynamic digital displays. Local primary school, St Austins attended, helping to bring the issue to life and connect businesses directly with the appeal.
Sara Lawton, Director of Rise Construction Framework, said: “As a business we have been aware of bed poverty for some time so we really wanted to do something that would make a difference in tackling this issue.
“It is heartbreaking to think the UK has almost 1,000,000 children with no bed to sleep in at night. It would be amazing if other businesses across the Region would consider Bedbank as their nominated charity”.
