A cycling club in North Liverpool has been given Sport England funding to help it expand its activities.
The club run by Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council has been awarded £9,945.
This will help fund large scale cycle rides, the purchase of new cycles and the development of new weekly rides. It will also enable workshops, maintenance classes and course for bike assistants to be held.
Bob Blanchard from Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council said:
“Funding from Sport England will enable our club to grow and develop, it will allow us to recruit and train more cycle leader assistants to deliver additional weekly cycle rides and large scale cycle events – the funding now places North Liverpool Cycle Club on a very sound footing with a positive future”.
Councillor Tim Beaumont, Mayoral lead for Wellbeing said:
“The city council fully supported this bid and are very pleased that it has been successful as it will enable more people to start and keep cycling.
“As a council we are keen to encourage more people to cycle more often- it is a great way of improving fitness . We are working with the Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group to find ways of increase the levels of physical activity of our residents and this funding will help in that respect.”
