The dance event to end all other dance events, The Vogue Ball, is now under two weeks away – and this year is a voyage in to the darkest depths of the galaxy with The Space Oddity; coming to The Rum Warehouse, which forms part of the Titanic Hotel at Liverpool’s iconic Stanley Dock on Saturday 4 October.
Now an international sensation, The Vogue Ball in Liverpool is a dance event like no other in the UK – where club culture meets high art. This year the heat is on to boldly vogue where no one has vogued before, as the very best Vogue teams (known as ‘Houses’) battle it out in a fight for ultimate dance supremacy, and 2014 sees a record number of ‘Houses’ participating in what promises to be the biggest and best Ball to date.
Organisers can now reveal all Houses taking part, which includes: House of Brazilica; House of Cards; House of Cilicone; House of Cody; House of Egoista; House of Ghetto; House of JubJub; House of LIPA; House of Lisbon; House of LJMU; House of Masquerade; House of Rare; House of Scotty Road; House of Suarez and House of Twisted Stitches.
There will also be a special performance from House of Addict, who stormed through to this year’s final of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. House of Addict (known as The Addict Initiative on BGT) wowed judges with their high energy gothic fairy tale dance routines, and they are set to impress the judges at this year’s Vogue Ball.
Organisers House of Suarez are now a company in residence at Rare Studio Liverpool, which offers professional performing arts training to young people in Merseyside. The company offers evening and weekend classes and also provides a one year intensive training course, and aims to nurture young talent, making it more accessible regardless of background – offering expert training from industry professionals. House of Suarez have been working with students at Rare Studio Liverpool and given 8 dance students an exciting opportunity to dance alongside them in one of their pieces.
Lindsay Inglesby, Artistic Director at Rare said:
“It has been an absolute pleasure being part of House of Suarez’s journey with the ongoing development of the ‘Liverpool Vogue Ball’. I have watched it grow from a small seed into in my opinion, one of the most ground-breaking events this city has ever seen. What it has done for the arts scene here is incomparable to anything else and has provided a platform for young, local performers to showcase their incredible talent. Particularly my students from Rare Studio Liverpool who are now working closely with and reaping the benefits of this amazing company and spectacular show.
“Every year I wonder how the show will top the success of the year before but it always does. It is collaboration at its very best and testament to what can be achieved with a vision through hard work and determination and we are proud to be associated with it!”
Aviance Milan, one of New York’s most celebrated Voguers will also be returning for 2014, working with House of Suarez on the opening performance.
Originally from the legendary House of Milan in NYC, Aviance began his Vogue journey in 1991 while competing at balls. He received a career scholarship for Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and has collaborated with companies such as Ballet de Lorraine in France and Le Biennialle Theatre in Venice, Italy. He has danced for La India, Grace Jones, Safire, Lil Kim, Kevin Aviance, Franklin Fuentes, Veronica, and House of Ninja and has taught classes internationally.
As well as dancing in the opening piece, Aviance will also be a Vogue judge on the evening. He will be joined by Philip and Tony Armstrong, and independent artist and choreographer Gary Clarke.
With all the Houses now announced and the judging panel confirmed, all that is left to do is book tickets before they sell out and start the final countdown to the blast-off of an adventure that is out of this world. Get ready to journey through the cosmos and unearth extra-terrestrial beings and space crusaders all engaging in fierce dance combat for your sheer entertainment, on the most messed-up catwalk show in the universe.
