An event in Liverpool that aimed to ‘celebrate the achievements of women’ saw a packed audience raise £40,000 for a charity supporting underprivileged children. Jennie Lewis reports

Held at Liverpool FC’s Anfield stadium, the Delivering the Power of Women event on Friday, March 14, was organised by Amanda Unsworth and Sarah Madden, from Liverpool freight forwarder Trinity Logistics.
International Women’s Day took place on March 8, but Amanda was keen to continue the theme in the days following. Supported by headline sponsors Peel Ports Group, shipping giant Maersk and IT specialist Halcyon, the event was a sell-out.
Those attending enjoyed a two-course lunch, live celebrity performances and networking opportunities with over 300 businessmen and women in the room. Local radio presenter Leanne Campbell hosted proceedings, which also saw a performance from singer Rosalie Galvin.
And they raised a magnificent £40,000 for With Love, Steph – a charity that aims to enhance the lives and experiences of children and young people through investment in improved child patient care, research into childhood disease and provide support for children suffering financial hardship.
It was set up in memory of Stephanie Jeanne Glynn who died in January 2021 with a brain tumour.
Among the speakers on the day was Ellie Kerr, Founding Director of the Merseyside Women of the Year Awards, who thanked Amanda and Sarah for the opportunity to “be part of such an amazing speaker line up of the most incredible, inspiring women – all doing it in their own unique way”.
Other speakers included Liverpool FC Women’s Ambassador and football media pundit, Natasha Dowie, nutritionist and women’s health coach Sarah Griffiths, as well as Emma Snell from Peel Ports and Samatha Brocklehurst from Maersk.
Amanda said: “Trinity Logistics is a women-led business in a very traditionally male industry. So we are very aware of how hard women need to work to make their mark in business.
“We had the idea last year of delivering an event that would celebrate the achievements of women while raising funds for an important cause. Cancer is something that in some way affects all of us and has certainly affected my family over the years. The only way to prevent this being the case in years to come is if we raise funds for vital research.

“I decided I wanted to use my position and play a small part in that. To have the opportunity to do so, whilst celebrating some of our region’s most remarkable women, makes me incredibly proud.
“I can’t thank Sarah and my team at Trinity enough for their help in making the event such a huge success. Even our daughters and nieces were involved on the day, helping sell badges and raffle tickets, which all contributed towards the total amount raised.

“The atmosphere in the room on Friday was truly incredible – there was a real feel of camaraderie, collaboration and cordiality. It was women coming together to support women – I was really blown away.
“Every penny of funds raised through ticket sales, raffles and auctions goes directly into the pot. I’ve been truly overwhelmed not only by people’s positive feedback on the event itself, but by their generosity and willingness to put their hands in their pockets to support a genuinely wonderful and worthy cause.”
The event was supported by Carpenters, DOF Wholesale, DSG Accountants, Goggins, Happy Smile, Ways to Wow.
