Derwent Group will build the 83,000 sq ft industrial project at Huyton Trade Park

An 83,000 sq ft industrial development on the site of a former biscuit factory in Knowsley has secured consent from council planners.

Acting on behalf of the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation, Derwent Group says the scheme will see the creation of 24 units ranging in size from 1,200 sq ft up to 7,500 sq ft at Huyton Trade Park.

Derwent, which also operates Liverpool Shopping Park off Edge Lane for the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation, says the project could create employment opportunities for top to 150 people.

First revealed in LBN in February, this development will be located on the site of the former Huntley & Palmers biscuit factory.

It opened in 1955 but was closed by 1983. For several years afterwards it was also home to one of Merseyside’s most popular nightclubs, Ferrari’s.

Andy McCormack, senior asset manager at the Derwent Group, said: “This is a scheme of major significance for the area. It will create an  economic boost of circa £5.8m per year and we are pleased to have secured planning in such a timely manner.

“We recognised that there is a real gap in this regional market for modern industrial space and the scheme will address this deficit, providing a much-needed solution for local and national occupiers looking to move into the area.”
