Developer Cityheart has submitted plans to build 86 homes in Widnes in the first phase of a £50m regeneration scheme.
Halton Council selected Cityheart as its preferred partner on the scheme at Foundry Lane in Halebank which will eventually see the construction of 360 new homes, following outline approval for the project.
Now Cityheart has submitted what is called a resaved matters planning application to build 86 new homes comprising two and three-bed houses and two-bed apartments set in a landscaped environment. Reserved matters is a follow-on from an outline application which lays out a more detailed description of part of a wider property scheme.
Cityheart has partnered with Liverpool affordable housebuilder Torus as its registered provider. Torus will take ownership and manage the new homes once completed to deliver a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership options.
Warren Taylor, director of Cityheart, said: “This is a significant milestone in facilitating the delivery of this vibrant new regeneration project in the heart of Halebank. This application signifies the critical next step in allowing Cityheart to commence works on site later this year in order to deliver the homes for our partner, Torus, by summer 2023.”
Together with the Council, Cityheart is currently working on the final masterplan for the wider redevelopment of the former Stobart and Tarmac industrial sites, which is expected to be released later this year.
Council’s Executive Board Member for the Physical Environment, Cllr Stef Nelson, added: “This regeneration project is vital to the future sustainability of the region and will provide much needed affordable housing, helping to build new communities and dramatically improve the area.”
The appointed professional team for the project comprises architect Corstorphine + Wright, landscape architect DEP and planning consultant is Zerum.
