Developer Elan submits plans to build 104 new homes on the site for a former Wirral sports club and also proposes to build new sporting facilities. Tony McDonough reports
Elan Homes is looking to build 104 new homes and new sports facilities at a site in Bromborough in Wirral.
This week the developer has lodged two planning applications with Wirral Council detailing its plans for the nice-acre site off Bridle Road. It is on the site of the former Octel Sports And Social Club which closed four years ago.
After consulting with both Wirral Council and Sport England, Elan has now come forward with plans to build a mix of new homes including apartments and semi-detached and detached houses comprising two to five-bedroom.
It says 21 of the homes would be designated as affordable for either rent or shared ownerships. A home can be classed as affordable if the rent or sale price is no more than 80% of local market rates.
Elan says it will create changing facilities and a refurbished community building to house Bromborough & Eastham Junior Football Club. Woodlands and other green space, with an equipped play area, would also be provided.
In the second planning application the company says it will create new football pitches at the former Prices Sports Club at Bromborough Pool. And it says it will support cricket, tennis and bowling facilities in the area.
In a statement Elan said: “A decision on these two planning applications is imminent. If both applications are approved the development proposals will deliver much needed new housing in the area, without encroaching on the Green Belt.

“The site owners have made it clear that the former Octel Club will not re-open and therefore approval of the residential element will provide certainty for neighbours of the site, which is currently vulnerable to anti-social behaviour.
“We look forward to these planning applications going to Wirral Council’s planning committee for a decision.”
