Two Liverpool entrepreneurs are celebrating after risking it all on a new app – and six months later their project has generated a six-figure turnover.

In a few short months Expert Apps, which provides a social media style app platform for experts in a range of niche areas to monetise their knowledge, has generated a turnover of £220,000 for co-founders Darren Galvin and Danny Webster.

“We can’t believe it,” Darren said. “We knew this idea had legs, we were both willing to risk everything to get it live after months in development, yet we could not have imagined we’d be in this position just six months since launch.

“We have created our app in such a way we have proved it is possible to fund your app idea without high level investment. If you are an expert in any discipline you can start making some passive income through the technology.”

Range of experts

The way Expert Apps works is users who feel they need support, inspiration or advice in business, or want more information or news around a hobby or interest, can download the app for free on iOS and Android.

They can access a range of experts’ knowledge in areas such as property investment, fitness, martial arts, arts & crafts, health & wellbeing, business and academia.

The app user can access free content from those experts or they can subscribe to an expert’s premium content for a monthly flat fee currently set at £5.99. If users want to subscribe to more than one expert, that’s their choice.

Small fee

Danny added: “Using this system, the user accesses knowledge or expertise which helps them in business or simply interests them or furthers their knowledge.

“They pay a small monthly fee for the premium content and that fee is shared among us as the creators, the licence-holders for each area of interest and the experts themselves.”

Other areas within Expert Apps which are due to come onstream in 2019 include parenting, pets, music and equine.

Darren, who lives in South Liverpool and Danny, of Prescot, were so determined to bring this project to life they initially funded the development phase by using every credit card and every loan available to them.

Flat out

“We started this venture in a room above a taxi office,” Darren said. “We have worked flat out to bring this app to life, we’ve had support from many including our mentors.

“They include Nick James, Matt Elwell, and the Seriously Fun Business Team who have helped up with Business and strategies and Kul Mahay who has supported us with our Leadership and organisational development. We’d like to thank all of those who believed in us.”

The pair have recently moved into Innovation Park on Digital Way, Liverpool, as they expand their operations.  They invited presenter Claire Simmo of Radio City 2 and more than 30 supporters to the official opening followed by a celebration at the Hard Day’s Night Hotel.
