DV8 Designs to transform the old blind school in Liverpool

One of Cheshire’s most prestigious pub companies has appointed leading architecture and interior design practice DV8 Designs to help revamp its first Liverpool venture.

The New Moon Company has enlisted managing director of DV8 Design’s Lee Birchall to carry out a major creative renovation of its seventh property – The Old Blind School.

Lee and his team, whose offices are based in Warrington, will transform the iconic Hardman Street grade II listed building into a contemporary urban pub, which incorporates a modernistic design that pays homage to the venue’s heritage.

Lee said:

“Having worked with the New Moon Company during previous ventures, we are excited to maintain the longevity of our relationship and undertake such a large scale project.

“Our objective is to completely transform the interior of The Old Blind School and bring it into the modern day, whilst remaining true to the building’s roots.

“The 280 seat two floor restaurant will be given an urban vibe through the introduction of ultra-modern décors, vivid colour schemes and playful decorative elements that aim to accentuate the overall architectural design. We will also carry out a complete overhaul of the bar and 70 seat terrace area to create a welcoming and visually appealing space.”

Modelled on the highly successful Old Sessions House in Knutsford – co-owners of the New Moon Company, David Mooney and Paul Newman, hope to build on the brand by opening their first Liverpool establishment.

Paul said:

“We have been looking for the right site in Liverpool now for a while and it has always been our intention to be in this fabulous City. We are delighted to have found the perfect site to showcase our thing in Liverpool.

“Having worked with Lee on similar projects, it felt only right to enlist the help of the team at DV8. I am certain that they will bring a truly unique creative flare to The Old Blind School, which will capture the attention of the city.”

The Old Blind School is set to open its doors to the public in May 2015.
