Low-cost airline easyJet announces two new Nordic winter routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport starting in November. Tony McDonough reports
November will see new routes launched by easyJet from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) to two Nordic destinations.
On November 2 the low-cost carrier will begin flights to the Icelandic capital Reykjavik. This will operate on Mondays to Fridays. November 25 will see flights to Kittilä in the Lapland region of Finland, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
There are already more than 40 routes operated by easyJet from LJLA and the carrier, which is currently the subject of takeover speculation, has added a ninth aircraft to its base here.
Both destinations offer the opportunity for festive breaks. Reykjavik offers access to geysers, waterfalls and volcanic landscapes as well as geothermal lagoons such as the Blue Lagoon. It is also one of the best places in the world to witness the Northern Lights.
Kittilä, located in the heart of Lapland, offers a “winter wonderland experience”, from snow-covered forests and Northern Lights to husky sledding, snowmobiling and skiing in nearby Levi.
This destination is especially popular with families looking to experience the magic of the festive season and meet Father Christmas.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, said: “We’re excited to be adding these winter destinations to our growing network from Liverpool. Customers now have the opportunity to explore Iceland and Lapland.”

And easyJet holidays is also offering package holidays to both Reykjavik and Kittilä from Liverpool, including return flights and hotel accommodation, with a range of options available.
Paul Winfield, LJLA’s aviation director, added: “Reykjavik and Kittilä are exciting additions, offering strong appeal for winter travel and festive getaways. EasyJet’s continued growth here at the North West’s faster, easier, friendlier airport demonstrates the strength of the Liverpool market.”
