Liverpool city region facilities management firm Kingdom Group sees revenues rise 11% to £211.5m but pre-tax profits dip by 48%. Tony McDonough reports
Merseyside facilities management firm Kingdom Group is reporting a surge in revenue but a fall in pre-tax profits.
In it accounts for the 12 months to March 31, 2025, posted on Companies House, Kingdom revealed an 11% rise in revenues to £211.5m but said pre-tax profits had fallen 48% to £2.4m.
Based in Newton-le-Willows, Kingdom offers outsourced cleaning, security, building maintenance and recruitment services to both private and public sector customers, including local authorities.
It was founded by current majority shareholder and chief executive Terry Barton in 1993. He was encouraged to “go it alone” by his wife Agnes who also owns a significant stake in the business.
With the backing of a bank manager who believed in his vision, Terry launched Kingdom as a small, local business with big ambitions and a focus on “care, unity, and quality”.
Within ten months, the company made its first acquisition and by 2006, the venture was recognised nationally, a milestone that transformed our service offerings and scale. Today is employs more than 11,000 permanent and temporary staff.
In the annual report, Terry wrote: “In the current times clients are often looking for savings and stressing margins. This puts pressure on our teams when price is the main driver in retention and winning of new business in certain markets.
“This is when our proven growth strategy comes to its fore it for, as highlighted in our performance to date. We choose to compete in sectors where clients to value innovative solutions.”

During the year Kingdom acquired three businesses – Competence Matters, FPR Group and CJohn Holdings. And in January this year it appointed former cabinet minister Lord Peter Hain as business adviser.
“The directors remain focused on the vision to be recognised as one of the UK‘s foremost suppliers in each of its operating sectors,” added Terry.
