Glyn and Lisa Richards, and their son Max, open new independent golf retailer in Southport town centre ahead of the Open Championship’s return to Royal Birkdale in 2026. Andrew Brown reports
A brand new golf shop has opened in Southport – the centre of ‘England’s Golf Coast’ and the host of The Open golf championship in 2026.
Hole In 1 Golf has opened at 203 Lord Street in Southport town centre, a local independent family-owned business, by Glyn and Lisa Richards and son, Max, in time for Christmas.
They said: “We opened on December 1 and have enjoyed a brilliant response from customers since we arrived. So many people have been saying ‘we’re so glad you’ve opened’
“This area also boasts ‘England’s Golf Coast’, with so many fabulous golf courses nearby. Opening this shop was a no-brainer for us. There’s a real need for what we offer. We’re so excited for The Open coming next year.
“We’re looking forward to cheering on Tommy Fleetwood. It would be fantastic to see him win The Open in his home town. He’s such a humble, down-to-earth person.”
Hole In 1 Golf offers a selection of top golf brands and outdoor apparel with expert advice on hand to help. They added: “People talk about online shopping, but you’re often taking a chance when you order online – and also if you then want to try and send anything back and try and secure a refund.
“People love the fact they can walk into our shop, see what we have first-hand, feel the quality, and try things on in our changing room.
“What we’ve found since we’ve opened is that we’re really appreciated by female golfers – we’ve had a lot of them coming in, to the extent that we’ve increased the size of the range that we offer.

“Having a high street presence, expert advice on hand and a shop with a changing room are additional benefits. Because when it comes to the price, we have a price match guarantee so it will match the price online anyway.”
The clothing range is available for both men and women. There’s a dedicated ladies section with clothing from Glenmuir & Swing out Sister.
