An army of Mcdonald’s employees marched on Liverpool with the aim of wiping out litter from the city centre’s streets.
The team was comprised of both crew and managers from 36 of the popular fast-food restaurant chains across Merseyside, North Wales, Liverpool, Blackpool, Preston, Lancaster and Morecambe. The project came to fruition from a partnership formed between McDonalds and Keep Britain Tidy with the aim of enforcing KPT’s Litter Prevention Policy.
At a Mayoral Breakfast in March earlier this year, area manager Mike McDonald pledged to help “Make Liverpool cleaner and greener.”
True to his word, Mr McDonald and over 200 volunteers wielding litter-pickers concentrated their efforts on seven areas of the city including the Albert Dock, Edge Lane, Sefton Street and Hunts Cross.
Mr McDonald said:
“With the International Festival for Business, The Open Championship and the Liverpool Giants
events taking place over the past two months, attracting several million visitors, we were keen to
see what we could do to help tackle the build-up of litter on Liverpool’s streets.”
The large-scale clean-up event also took place last year, as part of ‘The Magical Mystery Tour’ which saw volunteers help clear away litter from the areas of the city which have a connection to The Beatles.
Mr McDonald made his intentions clear when he said:
“It’s about supporting the community, building links and showing that McDonald’s is about more than just serving hamburgers.”
