A £90m residential development in Liverpool is on schedule to welcome its first residents in summer 2021 after one of its four towers sold out.
Liverpool-based Legacie Developments started work on Parliament Square in the city’s Baltic district late last year. And despite the obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project remains on track.
Successful delivery of Parliament Square will be the latest in a number of schemes created by Legacie in the city. These include Ropemaker Place and Reliance House, both in the city centre.
The firm initially faced opposition to Parliament Square, which will comprise 500 apartments. Both local councillors and Baltic Area CIC were concerned of the impact it would have on the area .
Over the past decade or so, the Baltic Triangle has been transformed from a collection of largely empty docklands warehouses just south of the city centre, into one of the fastest-growing digital and creative hubs in the UK.
There was also anger that the development would mean the closure and demolition of the popular Constellations venue. However, following discussions between Legacie and the objectors they agreed to design the scheme to enhance the area. It secured planning permission in September 2018.
The first apartment tower, which has completely sold out, will welcome its first residents by August 2021. John Morley, managing director of Legacie Developments, said: “We have made major progress at Parliament Square and we are firmly on target to open the first phase of the development next summer.
“Overall, we are ahead of schedule on the entire development. It is great news for us as a company and great news for the local community because Parliament Square is going to have a positive economic impact and will revitalise a key thoroughfare into the city centre. It will also compliment the burgeoning Baltic Triangle district.
Legacie, founded by John Morley in 2016, has recently expanded operations to Manchester with the announcement of a £40m residential development at Salford Quays.
