After wowing the crowds during Eurovision the Floating Earth installation by artist Luke Jerram at Royal Albert Dock will be staying in Liverpool a little longer than planned. Tony McDonough reports
Artist Luke Jerram’s Floating Earth installation at Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool is to stay a little longer than planned due to popular demand.
Measuring 10 metres, Floating Earth was visible in the dock in the run up to the Eurovision Song Contest and was viewed by many of the extra 500,000 people who flocked to the city.
It was originally due to be on display until Thursday, May 18. However, so popular has the illuminated installation been among visitors to the dock it will now stay an extra weekend. It will now be switched off at 11.59pm on Sundays, May 21.
Sean Morrison, estate manager at Royal Albert Dock, said: “We’re thrilled to extend the dates for Floating Earth.

“The response we’ve received from visitors has been incredible, and we want to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to enjoy this breathtaking installation by Luke Jerram.”
Experience Floating Earth from the inner quay for free, with an accompanying soundscape by BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones from 12pm to 10:30pm (12pm to 7pm on Sunday).
Floating Earth was focused on bringing people together, a nod to this year’s Eurovision theme – United by Music.
