Network Space has submitted a full planning application to Knowsley Council for the £15m redevelopment of the former Sovereign Distillery in Huyton.

It acquired the 446,151 sq ft site from Lambrini maker Halewood Artisanal Spirits in March 2021. Now known as Sovereign Industrial Park, the application covers around half of the 28 acre site.

It comprises the delivery of two industrial units of 29,600 sq ft and 22,300 sq ft. It will also see the selective demolition and refurbishment of existing buildings to create an 87,400 sq ft single unit. There will also be a terrace of six units of 7,700 sq ft each.

The scheme will provide space suitable for industrial, distribution and trade uses. This initial £15m phase will deliver a total of 195,000 sq ft of industrial space. Each building will have additional landscaping to enhance biodiversity. There will also be electrical vehicle charging points.

In addition to creating construction jobs, the development could accommodate up to a 400 strong workforce. Joe Burnett, development director for Network Space, said: “This is a high-profile, exceptionally well-located site.

“Through this part demolition, part refurbishment and part new build strategy, we intend to deliver a multi-let industrial and logistics estate. It will be perfectly suited for a wide range of occupiers.

“Where possible, we are seeking to reduce the development’s embodied carbon by retaining and repurposing existing buildings. The phase will deliver almost 200,000 sq ft of new employment space.”
