Schools may have broken up for the summer but Liverpool building firm Frank Rogers is going into the classroom to carry out vital work before the new term with £13.6m of contracts secured. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool building firm Frank Rogers is expanding its footprint in the education sector with more work lined up over the summer break and £13.6m worth of contracts secured in total.
And the business is also celebrating as it secures a place on a new £9.5bn construction and capital works framework, awarded by the Department for Education.
In May, the firm announced the completion of projects at St Margaret’s Academy in Liverpool and Walney Academy in Barrow-in-Furness.
Speaking to LBN, managing director Dean Rogers said the company was developing a niche in the education sector, where safeguarding and compliance are central to project delivery.
The strategy has since gathered momentum, with the firm securing a series of new education contracts in the months following. During the summer alone Frank Rogers will carry out £4.3m of work.
Another project is at Shavington Academy in Cheshire where Frank Rogers is delivering laboratory refurbishment works to support the creation of modern, functional and compliant science teaching spaces.
This includes the full refurbishment of existing laboratory areas, including strip-out of redundant lab furniture, fixtures, finishes and services, followed by upgraded mechanical and electrical installations, new finishes and specialist laboratory furniture and equipment.
Frank Rogers has also won a contract to deliver a package of refurbishment and groundworks at Queen’s Park High School in Chester. Works will include upgrades to classroom spaces and toilet facilities.
Managing director Dean Rogers said: “With completion planned for the end of the summer holidays, our team will be working on a carefully managed programme to ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently and ready for the new term.”
In recent weeks Frank Rogers has also carried out works at Formby High School and taken on projects at St Mary’s Primary School and Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College.
Frank Rogers has also expanded its reach in the further and higher education sector through its fire safety division, delivering projects at the City of Liverpool College’s Clarence Street campus and completing a new food and beverage facility at the University of Liverpool.
Work at the college builds on Frank Rogers’ appointment to deliver refurbishment projects across multiple sites as part of its multi-million-pound Minor Works Framework.
The firm has developed a strong relationship with the college, partnering on its Construction Skills Academy at Liverpool Waters to help inspire and equip the next generation of construction professionals.
In June, construction director Dave Bracegirdle represented the business during a visit by former Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Alan Milburn, which explored how industry, education and government can work together to address the growing number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET).
Dave said: “Our growing presence in the education sector is about much more than delivering projects – it’s about building relationships, supporting skills development and actively participating in the conversation around skills and training, which will drive the future of construction.”
