A couple of feathered friends will be taking residence at Liverpool Waters this month as part of the city’s summer activity programme.
Princes Dock will be home to a new eight-foot bronzed Liver Bird, a stone’s throw away from the original birds on top of the Royal Liverpool Building.
The bird, which is located at the Cruise Linear Terminal, was officially unveiled by the deputy mayor, Councillor Wendy Simon, on Wednesday May 13, alongside the arrival of The Royal Princess. It will be in place until September and is estimated to greet tens of thousands of passengers over the summer.
A seven-foot tall duck, which can also be found at Princes Dock from May 15, will be one of 20 themed ducks dotted around Liverpool city centre to create the city’s duck trail. Each duck has been individually designed on events in Liverpool’s history with Liverpool Waters’ duck based on the Waterfront.
Liza Marco, asset manager at Peel, said:
“We are delighted to be involved with these two events and play our part in the city’s summer calendar. The Liver Bird is synonymous with Liverpool and giving tourists the chance to get up close and personal with one is an exciting prospect.
“Activities like the duck trail are fun for the whole family and raise lots of money for great charitable causes. If you are struggling for things to do this half-term, go online and download a map. You will have hours of fun finding all the quirky ducks across the city.”
The Duck Trail is one of a number of summer events organized by AquaDucked in support of MacMillan Cancer Support and is being held as part of the city’s “One Magnificent City” programme. Other events included the LightNight on May 15, where the ducks will be unveiled, and the Duck Race taking place on June 7 as part of International Mersey Festival.
The Duck Trail will be in place until June 9. For more information about how to get involved with the AquaDucked’s Duck Trail, please visit:www.aquaducked.co.uk/events/liverpool/the-duck-trail/ .
