Builder Glencar completes 164,000 sq logistics and office development in Wirral Waters which will serve as the headquarters and distribution complex of wood manufacturer Finsa UK. Tony McDonough reports
Specialist wood manufacturer Finsa UK is set to move into a new 164,000 sq ft logistics and administrative headquarters in Birkenhead docklands.
Construction firm Glencar has achieved practical completion of the multi-million pound development which is located within Peel’s Liverpool Waters development and the Liverpool City Region Freeport Zone.
Glencar undertook the project on behalf of Peel Ports Group, a longstanding client. This scheme comprises 158,904 sq ft of warehouse logistics space and 5,000 sq ft of timber-framed office space.
Finsa UK is a subsidiary of Spanish company Finsa which is a manufacturer of wood products, in particular chipboard and MDF. The UK division, which generates annual sales of more than £63m, serves as a sales and distribution operation.
Raquel Carrillo, managing director of Finsa UK, said: “Our new headquarters marks an exciting new chapter for Finsa UK.
“The facility provides us with the platform to enhance our operations and continue our long-standing relationship with Birkenhead. We are grateful to both Peel Ports and Glencar for their role in bringing this vision to life.”
LCR Freeport went live in January 2023 with £25m of Government seed funding. Freeports are designated zones where normal tax and customs rules do not apply. Imports can enter with simplified customs documentation and without paying tariffs.
This new facility, at Grandidges Quay, includes integrated photovoltaic panels, battery storage, rainwater reuse systems, and the use of sustainable timber throughout the office structure.
