Improved A Level grades put Liverpool top of the class

The future of Liverpool seems to be in safe hands as local A Level results show a vast improvement yet again.

Grades from the  majority of schools across the Liverpool city region have matched the national average at 98 per cent, as well as a 100 per cent pass rate for vocational qualifications.

Local pupils have also made an impact with provisional figure showing A* – C grades. Nearly 72 per cent of pupils achieving fantastic grades compared to 76.5 per cent nationally. These number have increased by 0.8 per cent when compared with the same period last year.

The average number of A Level points also rose as it climbed to 214.3 this year, which is a substantial increase on the 204.3 in 2013.

Councillor Jane Corbett, cabinet member for education, said:

“Congratulations to all of our students whose work, passion and commitment to their studies has paid off following two years of really hard graft. Anyone who has done A levels knows how incredibly testing they are, and it is no mean feat to get good grades. It is also a tribute to the support they have received from brilliant teachers and supportive parents and carers.

“It is more important than ever to get decent grades in order to secure a decent job or place at university, and we are working hard with our schools to make sure that every single young person gets the help, guidance and support they need to achieve their full potential.”
