Helping your employees build their personal resilience could have a positive impact on mental health in the workplace.

That will be the theme of an event taking place in Liverpool later this month, hosted by the Liverpool branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and taking place at the Royal Liver Building offices of wealth manager Tilney.

Resilience – A Necessity for the Workplace and Beyond, will feature a number of speakers. They will include Irene Afful, a former senior officer in Merseyside Police and founder of coaching consultancy Ametrine Enterprise Solutions.

According to a study by Federation of Small Businesses and Mind, the Mental Health Charity, stress was now the number one reason for employees taking time off work. It estimates stress-related absence is costing UK businesses £26bn every year.

Central to the event, which runs from 8.30am to 10.30am on Tuesday, January 15, is the idea that resilient employees cope better with adversity and are more likely to continue performing well when faced with challenges, as well as being better able to maintain their mental wellbeing.

As well as Irene, the other speakers are David Bolton, director of The Bar-Bearians, a former military and civilian police officer who survived an horrific motorcycle crash, and Danielle Kershaw, director of InnSaei Insights and a self-defined ‘mental health warrior’.

The event, which includes breakfast, is free for IoD members and £12 for non members. Click here to book a place.
