It’s plane, set and match at Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) staged a tennis match on the runway last week (27th May) to celebrate its sponsorship deal with Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.

As part of the build up to the tournament, which is set to take place at Aigburth Cricket Club from 18th – 21st June, LJLA will give passengers a chance to show off their tennis skills before boarding their plane with mini-tennis at the airport.

The tennis theme will be echoed around the airport’s bars and restaurants with Pimms and strawberries and cream being introduced to the menu ahead of Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament. Passengers will also be offered a chance to win tickets to the event.

Mark Povall, Director of Air Service Development at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, is looking forward to tennis fever sweeping the airport. He said:

“There is always such a buzz around the city during the build up to Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament and we want to make sure that our passengers and staff can feel a part of it.

“As the city’s gateway to the rest of the world, we are extremely proud to be supporting Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament. It’s such a fantastic event for the city, which attracts some of the world’s most talented players.”

Anders Borg, Director of Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament, added:

“One of the aims of the tournament is to encourage more people in the region to play tennis. By taking the game to the city’s airport, we hope to persuade novice players to have a go, while encouraging those who haven’t played in a few years to rediscover their passion for the game.

“The tournament brings some of the world’s top players to the city and we are delighted to have the support of Liverpool John Lennon Airport this year.”

Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament will see the British number two Aljaz Bedene bring his talents to Merseyside. Spectators at this year’s event will also have the chance to see tennis stars, such as Mansour Bahrami, Barry Cowen, Michael Jeremy Bates, Anders Jarryd, Peter McNamara, Ana Bogdan and Damir Dzumhur on centre court.

Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament will take place from 18-21 June at Aigburth Cricket Club.
