Jet2 and Jet2holidays will increase capacity at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) by 28% this summer and take the number of aircraft up to five.

It was one year ago when the first Jet2 flight took off from LJLA bound for Tenerife and since then its offering of more than 20 routes, as well as a winter programme, has provided a hit with North West travellers.

Attracting the Yorkshire-based carrier to Liverpool, to join other big hitters such as easyJet and Ryanair, was a key factor in LJLA breaking through the 5m passengers barrier for the first time in several years in 2024.

This summer Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will offer 23 routes, including Malaga, Malta and Reus. And an additional Boeing 737-800 aircraft will come into operation, meaning a fleet of five-based aircraft at the airport.

Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Our first year of operations at Liverpool John Lennon Airport has surpassed all expectations, with the reaction from customers and independent travel agents being nothing short of phenomenal.

“Our award-winning customer service has had an enormous impact on customers, and the response has enabled us to put more seats and destinations on sale, giving local holidaymakers even more choice.”
