An executive at Liverpool FC, Rishi Jain, and manager Jürgen Klopp, are on the shortlist for the British LGBT Awards – with three nominations in total for the club. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool FC’s commitment to equality and diversity has been recognised with three nominations in the British LGBT Awards.
Held in association with headline sponsors Macquarie and Tesco, the British LGBT Awards celebrate leading LGBT+ activists, allies and celebrity figures who have worked to advance the rights of LGBT+ people during the past 12 months.
Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp is shortlisted in the Celebrity Ally category and the club’s senior equality, diversity and inclusion manager Rishi Jain is nominated in the Business Ally category for his work to drive forward positive changes for LGBT+ people.
The club has also been shortlisted in the Brand or Marketing campaign category for its Liverpool FC Red Together initiative. Red Together is the club’s three-year plan for equality, diversity, and inclusion, focusing on three priority areas – supporters, people and the club.

Mr Jain said: “It’s an honour to be personally recognised by the British LGBT Awards. I’m fortunate to work for an organisation that is fully committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in everything it does and more broadly in sport and society.
“I’m so passionate about this area of work and to have the support of such inspiring role models and allies across the club is fantastic.”
Representatives from global corporations such as Cadbury, Disney and Vodafone are also in the running for accolades alongside big name celebrities including Formula One star Lewis Hamilton, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe and Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall.
Sarah Garrett, British LGBT Awards founder, said: “These awards shine a light on those who have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the LGBT+ community, during what has been another very challenging 12 months for the community.
“The nominees, which include an exciting mix of famous LGBT+ faces, allies and organisations have all demonstrated a commitment to advancing LGBT+ rights. The awards on 24 June will be a huge celebration of our culture.”
