Knowsley attempts to raise its profile with new marketing scheme

A recent campaign has been launched to improve the profile of Knowsley borough by marketing the area as a place to invest and live.

The project known as ‘Knowsley Place’ was agreed upon in Knowsley Hall by leaders from local public and private sectors who will be releasing a new booklet called The Knowsley Story and a website called discoverknowsley.co.uk. The aim of these publications will be to educate people of the area and showcase its best qualities.

The campaign is run by the Place Board, chaired by Knowsley Safari Park operations director Edward Perry whose objectives for the project were made clear when He said the problem was that Knowsley’s voice isn’t being heard.

“We don’t seem to sell ourselves properly,”

He added Knowsley has plenty of assets but not enough people know about them. The book is designed to serve as a blueprint that will allow everybody to give the same message to visitors.

Other members of the board include representatives of major local employers, such as QVC and Clarke Energy, as well as well as Knowsley Council chief executive Sheenagh Ramsey and Knowsley Chamber of Commerce chief executive Lesley Martin-Wright.

All organisers involved in the project will also be attempting to raise funds for some investment events, including taking a stand at MIPIM, the annual international property event at Cannes in France.

Another aim of the project is to encourage networking on a larger-scale, with businesses already operating in the Knowsley Borough getting involved with surrounding companies from Liverpool and Manchester, to generate investments and further opportunities.

Peel Holdings director James Whittaker told an audience of about 50 business leaders he had recently acquired land in Knowsley because its location was perfect for logistics businesses.

Mr Whittaker said:

“It’s a perfect place for many businesses, but certainly logistics businesses. Liverpool and Manchester are powerhouse cities and Knowsley is right in the middle of them.”
