Let It Be opens to rave reviews at Liverpool’s Royal Court theatre

Beatlemania has returned to Liverpool thanks to the West End hit stage musical Let It Be, which sees audiences dancing in the aisles as they relive the sounds of the Fab Four.

The show celebrates the music The Beatles’ and charts their rise to global fame from humble beginnings. They were four boys from Liverpool who went on to change the world; and now the show has opened to rave reviews in the band’s hometown where it all began.

Let It Be opened at Royal Court Liverpool with preview performances on Thursday, 8th October, marking the official relaunch of the multi-million pound refurbishment of the popular venue. The following day, the cast gave a special poignant performance to mark what would have been Beatles’ legend John Lennon’s 75th birthday.

The show has come direct from London’s West End, and a gala show for Press and VIP guests last Tuesday generated rave reviews and 5-star ratings for the show which runs until Saturday, 14 November. This is what the critics say:

“A loving, loveable, triumph with not an ounce of fat on it, 9/10”  – Liverpool Confidential

“This show will leave you twisting and shouting in the aisles”Champion Newspapers

“A 5-star show id ever there was one, fantastic entertainment!”Merseysider Magazine

“5 stars, not to be missed!”Purple Revolver

“FOUR STARS” – Liverpool Echo

The glowing reviews follow last week’s announcement that Let It Be is the fastest selling show in Royal Court Liverpool’s history. It became the quickest show to sell more than 10,000 tickets, knocking the 2010 Christmas hit Little Scouse On The Prairie back into second place – and surpassed the theatre’s biggest show of all Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels, which took longer to reach that magic number.

Sunday shows at 2pm and 7pm have been added to the run. The venue has also been advertising for extra box office staff to meet demand.

Let It Be has been brought to Liverpool by Annerin Productions and Flying Music.

Derek Nicol, chief executive of Flying Music, commented:

“The people of Liverpool have truly welcomed LET IT BE into their hearts. Royal Court Liverpool is the perfect backdrop for the show and we are absolutely delighted with the response the show and cast have received.

“The reviews have been glowing, which is very fitting as it’s where it all began for The Beatles. Not only is this a great show for Beatles fans, but it’s also a great night out at the theatre for anyone who loves an energetic live concert featuring a catalogue of back-to-back iconic hit songs.”

The show is packed with over 40 of The Beatles’ greatest hits including Twist and Shout, She Loves You and Drive My Car, as well as global mega hits Yesterday, Hey Jude, Come Together and, of course, Let It Be. Travel back to the Swinging Sixties when all you needed was love, and a little help from your friends!

Seen by over 1 million people worldwide, Let It Be continues to delight audiences across the globe, having recently performed to audiences in Germany, Japan, Moscow, and France. Let It Be showcases the music of the world’s most successful rock ‘n’ roll band, in a spectacular concert charting the band’s meteoric rise from their humble beginnings in Liverpool’s Cavern Club, through the height of Beatlemania, to their later studio masterpieces.

Audiences have also seen the completion of a £2.8million refurbishment of the Royal Court Liverpool, which includes a new foyer, box office, circle bar and terrace. There is also improved access with a lift to all floors.

Kevin Fearon, chief executive of Royal Court Liverpool, added:

“We’ve been astounded by the audience reaction to LET IT BE. Every night they have been up dancing and singing along with the cast. Everybody is having a great time and they are leaving with massive smiles on their faces. If you are a fan of The Beatles then this show is unmissable.”

Let It Be has established itself as one of the West End’s most popular shows since originally opening at the Prince of Wales Theatre in September 2012, where it recouped its initial investment after just 18 weeks before transferring for a year-long run at the Savoy Theatre from January 2013 through to February 2014. The show has recently returned to the West End for an 8-month run at the Garrick Theatre.
