Liverpool Airport set for busiest August Bank Holiday since 2011

LJLA expects almost 70,000 people to pass through the airport during the weekend heading off to destinations around the Mediterranean and to cities such as Rome, Prague and Milan. Tony McDonough reports

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is expecting its busiest August Bank Holiday since 2011

Almost 70,000 passengers are expected to pass through Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

This is an increase of around 5% on the same weekend last year and the busiest August Bank Holiday for the airport since 2011.

Many of those flying out from Friday to Monday will be heading to Mediterranean destinations as they look to escape the disappointing weather of the last couple of weeks in the UK.

LJLA says weekend city breaks will be popular, too, with passengers travelling to locations such as Rome, Prague, Milan, Berlin and Budapest.

Robin Tudor, head of PR for the airport, said: “August Bank Holiday weekend is always our busiest time and this year with many people so fed up of the miserable summer weather here at home, we expect even more passengers will take advantage of the great choice of flights and the convenience of flying from Liverpool.”
