Liverpool John Lennon Airport is set for its busiest summer since 2019 and reveals how many passengers it expects to carry during the school holidays. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) says it expects to carry around 635,000 passengers during the six weeks of the school summer holidays – its busiest for four years.
Most schools across the North West broke up for summer this week kick-starting the big annual family getaway.
Passenger numbers over the school holiday period are expected to be 22% higher than last year due to a number of new and additional flights. Friday, August 18, is expected to be the busiest day with more than 16,000 passengers expected.
Airlines operating out of LJLA. Include easyJet, Ryanair, Lufthansa, PLAY, Wizz Air and Aer Lingus with multiple extra routes having been added this year. In the last few weeks easyJet has announced two new routes to Hurghada in Egypt and Lyon in France.
While budget carriers such as easyJet and Ryanair will offer multiple destinations in Europe Lufthansa, Aer Lingus and PLAY offer links to North America and the rest of the world. Next summer will be even busier with the arrival for the first time of Jet2.
Mediterranean and sunshine resorts including Faro, Malaga, Palma, Alicante, Tenerife, Dalaman, Antalya, Reus, Larnaca and Lanzarote are expected to be amongst the most popular.
High volumes of passenger traffic are also expected on city break flights to Dublin, Belfast, Barcelona, Nice and Amsterdam. Airport management continues to remind travellers to allow plenty of time to pass through the airport during peak periods.

They recommend passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time. Liquid restrictions are still in place for hand luggage.
