In 2025 Liverpool John Lennon Airport carried a record 5.6m-plus passengers and still managed to top the UK league table for on-time flights. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) saw 81% of flights taking off within 15 minutes of their scheduled departure time in 2025 making it the top performing UK airport.
Its achievement is all the more impressive when it is considered LJLA handled more than 5.6m passengers in 2025, the highest number in its 92-year history. Its 2025 on-time figure was 8% better than 2024 and 8% above the UK average.
These latest figures from the Civil Aviation Authority come as LJLA gears up for its busiest weekend of the year so far, as passengers take advantage of the first Bank Holiday weekend of 2026 and the start of this year’s ‘Easter getaway’.
More than 70,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport over the long Bank Holiday weekend as travellers from across the region jet off to a host of destinations from Liverpool. This weekend also coincides with the start of the 2026 summer season.
Robin Tudor, head of PR for LJLA said: “Liverpool is renowned as the region’s faster, easier, friendlier airport and its now official.
“we’re the UK’s most on-time airport too, which is another reason why millions of passengers from across the region now make Liverpool their airport of choice.
“As we move to our busier summer season, we look forward to welcoming thousands of passengers through the airport this Bank Holiday weekend, and in the coming weeks and months ahead.”

Flights to Dublin, Alicante, Belfast, Malaga, Palma, Tenerife, Faro, Krakow, Arrecife, and Barcelona are expected to be the top 10 busiest from Liverpool this Easter.
As ever with this being a particularly busy period for the airport, passengers are advised to arrive in plenty of time ahead of their departure, whilst a number of road works in the area may also impact on travel times to the airport too.
