Building firm Frank Rogers has successfully delivered projects on two schools and is set to start work on a third.

And the Liverpool-based family business says it can now boast a real specialism in the education sector which requires a different approach to other jobs with managing director Dean Rogers telling LBN: “safeguarding and compliance sit at the heart of delivery”.

In March, Wigan MP and Government minister Lisa Nandy visited St John Rigby College in the town to see first-hand the work carried out there by the expert team from Frank Rogers.

This work included demolishing the old entrance, creating a new entrance with two secure lobbies, constructing a new slip road and drop-off zone, and adding disabled parking. This scheme’s primary aim was to improve safety, security and accessibility.

Dean said: “Working in a live education environment, our programme has focused on enhancing both safety and functionality across the campus, ensuring the college can continue to provide a secure, high-quality setting for students and staff.”

Frank Rogers has also completed a nine-month programme of works at Overleigh St Mary’s Primary School in Chester. This was a “complex and evolving scheme” that saw work carried out across the entire school.

As the project progressed, additional challenges meant multiple classrooms had to be relocated at different stages, requiring flexibility, careful planning and saw what Dean described as “a truly collaborative approach from everyone involved”.

“Throughout the programme, communication, adaptability and maintaining a safe, positive environment for both staff and pupils remained our priority,” he added. “The professional behaviour of all staff has been faultless throughout.”

As part of the firm’s social value commitment, it also supported the school by installing a new pond and outhouse, helping to create a dedicated outdoor learning environment for pupils.

Now Frank Rogers is to embark on a major upgrade and refurbishment project, this time at Hebden Green Community School in Winsford in Cheshire, a facility that provides specialist education for students with a wide range of additional needs.

Its team will carry out a full fire alarm installation, complete electrical rewire, emergency lighting upgrades, fire compartmentation and fire door renewals and upgrade of the electrical small power system.

Dean said: “Working in a school or a college requires a different approach from other kinds of work. Safety and safeguarding are paramount as is ensuring minimum disruption to the learning environment.

“I’m proud of the work my team has delivered on these projects and I’m confident our growing expertise and knowledge will ensure a pipeline of work in the education sector in the future.

“On another ongoing live school project, we are engaging a group of students throughout the 12-month programme, giving them direct insight into the construction journey, the different roles involved and the future pathways available within the industry.

“By aligning this with its partnership with City of Liverpool College, we are creating a joined-up, 360-degree approach – delivering works within schools, engaging pupils directly, and connecting them with further education and career pathways in construction.”
