New food hall GPO is set to open in Liverpool city centre in the spring and is now seeking more independent operators to sign up as tenants. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool’s latest food hall is putting the call out for independent food and drink operators to sign up as tenants ahead of its launch this spring.
Following in the footsteps of the successful Baltic Market and Duke Street Food and Drink Market, Milestone Group has taken space at upmarket city centre mall, Metquarter, for its GPO venture which will create 132 jobs.
GPO is a nod to the former use of the building as Liverpool’s head Post Office. It will aim to showcase the best up-and-coming food and drink talent in the city. Already signed up are Bullion Craft Bean Café, Restaurant Konjo, Jail Bird Nashville Fired Chicken, Patty B’s Burgers, Thai 25, Dirty Herb Vegan Kitchen and Bubble Tea.
With the hope of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions easing over the coming months, GPO hopes to open to customers before the summer. Matt Bigland, founder and director at The Milestone Group said: “If you think your brand is a good fit, we want to hear from you.
“GPO will champion independent regional operators above all else, we’re urging people to get in touch and pitch to us.”
GPO will be located on the Victoria Street entrance of Metquarter, adjoining the Everyman cinema. Centre manager Jennina O’Neill, added: ‘It’s a really exciting time for Metquarter. GPO will inject even more life and soul into the building, and it completes the remixing of the centre. We truly offer something for everyone and we’re looking forward to the opening later this spring.”
