Will Waldron QC, from Exchange Chambers in Liverpool secured a £9.25m for a claimant who suffered a “catastrophic” brain injury in a road accident. Tony McDonough reports
A Liverpool barrister has secured a £9.25m settlement for a man who suffered a “catastrophic” brain injury in a road accident when he was 13.
In a long-running, “sensitive and complex” case, interim payments covered the cost of highly-effective rehabilitation and care, including a place at TRU, a specialist ABI (acquired brain injury) rehabilitation facility.
This operates within residential units and community outreach to provide a full pathway of active rehabilitation, pre-community re-entry, supported living and community re-integration.
Utilising expert evidence, Will Waldron QC, from Exchange Chambers in Liverpool, (leading Pankaj Madan) has now settled the case for £9.25m on a lump sum basis. With the claimant lacking capacity as a result of his injuries, the Court approved the settlement, saying that it represented the best outcome.
Mr Waldron was called to the Bar in 1986 and took silk in 2006. He travels the country handling catastrophic injury claims of complexity and high value and has a particular expertise in brain, spine and amputee cases.
A nationally recognised speaker on all aspects of catastrophic injury claims and a regular contributor to legal journals, he is a Recorder of the Crown and County Courts, a Judge of the Mental Health Tribunal Restricted Panel and a qualified mediator.
