Local medical practices unveil plans for multi-million pound private hospital facility on Liverpool waterfront. Tony McDonough reports
Two Liverpool medical practices are seeking planning consent for a new private hospital in Liverpool Waters.
Called The City Hospital, the facility at Princes Dock would offer a number of treatments and procedures. These would include plastic and reconstructive surgery, general surgery, gastroenterology, ear nose and throat surgery, dermatology, and GP services.
A number of well established local medical practices are behind the multi-million pound plan. They include Mr Ali Juma, a consultant plastic surgeon from The Clinic @51 in Rodney Street and Dr Arun Ghosh of the Ghosh Medical Group.
Operating theatres in The City Hospital will be equipped with the latest in digital technology. This will include multi-screen displays and 4k cameras, enabling live interactive surgical collaborations and training both nationally and internationally.
A training academy will be incorporated providing training in surgical and non-surgical treatments and procedures. It plans to recruit and train nurses from around the world.
Mr Juma says he will bring together a team of experienced multi-speciality consultants and surgeons. He added: “The City Hospital Princes Dock is planned with the sole purpose of providing a high-end multi-speciality safe medical and surgical facilities.

“The training academy is a lifelong ambition of disseminating and sharing knowledge while learning from others’ experiences.”
Dr Ghosh also said: “Our proposed new hospital at Liverpool Waters is a very exciting opportunity for the people of Liverpool. We can offer an alternative – enhancing Liverpool’s capacity in terms of beds, nurses and doctors.
“Our location at Princes Dock will provide a secure, clean, and safe environment for our patients, with the waterside setting creating a calming environment for patients pre and post treatment.”
Once they have secured approval Mr Juma and Dr Ghosh will begin fit-out immediately with a target of opening the hospital by early summer this year. It will occupy around 8,600 sq ft at No 10 Princes Parade.
Liza Marco, senior asset manager at Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters, added: “It’s great to see Liverpool Waters attracting a world class medical facility.
“It’s an ideal site for The City Hospital because Princes Dock is a very accessible city centre location with excellent transport links and plenty of car parking so it’s very easy for staff and patients to get to.”
