Wirral heating, ventilation air-conditioning firm Kimpton is carrying out a £750,000 upgrade of the heating and water system to reduce carbon emissions at a top London hotel.

Located next to London’s iconic Tower Bridge, Tower Hotel is four-star rated and offers views of the bridge and across the River Thames. It has 801 bedrooms.

Kimpton, which has been trading for almost 60 years, is delivering new boiler plant and a sophisticated 60m flue system. This will run from the basement plantroom through the hotel to the roof.

It will also install five new industrial condensing boilers. These will deliver a total heating power of more than 3.8mW, via an 8” gas main. It is 100 times larger than the average domestic supply.

This upgrade is being project-managed over a 16-week period to ensure zero downtime for the hotel in terms of heating or water supply before the end of September. Once installed the new system offers additional flexibility as requirements change over time and season.

Matt Breakwell from Kimpton said: “We love working on hotel and accommodation projects such as the Tower Hotel in London. We’re used to demanding timelines, challenging space requirements.

“We ensure the resulting systems are both carbon friendly, innovative, and cost-efficient. We have implemented many similar projects at sites across the UK, and are glad to once again be working with Davies Partnership on this project.”

Kevin Fields, commercial manager at Davies Partnership, added: “With their expertise in innovative heating and ventilation systems, Kimpton was the obvious choice for this project.

“They are highly skilled with the technical knowledge to deliver these kinds of complex projects in short timeframes. We are pleased to be working with them on this project to improve the efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint at Tower Hotel.”

Kimpton installed its first heat pumps in the 1970s for Walkers Crisps and Golden Wonder. It has also delivered the UK’s first water source heat pump in open sea at Plas Newydd, Anglesey for the National Trust.
