This January, Liverpool continues it’s annual “Keep it Local” campaign, which seeks to encourage locals to keep money in their community by shopping in local, independent stores and eating in local restaurants.
More than just a philanthropic feat, guests who dine at Lucha Libre or Miyagi this month will receive an impressive 40% off their bill, with a further 10% donated back into the local community.
Money raised from diners at Lucha Libre will go towards supporting the city’s Whitechapel Centre, whilst Miyagi will be supporting the ‘Save Katie’ Wright appeal.
The idea is simple – customers get 40% off their food bill when they spend £5 or more in any local independent business, retailer or charity in the city. All you need to do is to give the receipt to your waiter or waitress at the beginning of your meal to receive your discount.
Earlier this year, bubbly teenager Katie Wright was diagnosed with Leukemia for the second time after a long, arduous 3 years of treatment.
Her family have set up a Go Fund Me page with the goal of raising £370,000 to support her life saving treatment.
Director, Alex Hannah says:
“We hope that with the support of our customers we will be able to help Katie and her family get closer to the money she needs for her treatment”.
In the week following the tragic news of the death of a homeless man on the streets of Liverpool, and ahead of forecast below-freezing temperatures, Lucha Libre will be donating their share to The Whitechapel centre, who run a scheme called ‘No second night out’.
Their vision is that no person new to the streets of Liverpool will sleep cold for more than one night. To do this is expensive, as the centre costs £548 to run for just one night – that’s more than the average weekly rental cost of a city apartment.
As well as supporting deserving causes, the ‘Keep It Local’ campaign also aims to draw consumers’ attention to the throngs of thriving local businesses.
There’s never been a better excuse to get out there and exploring your city!
