Liverpool city region law firm Fletchers continues its aggressive acquisition strategy with the purchase of two more practices – one with an £11m turnover and offices across the north of England. Tony McDonough reports
Law firm Fletchers Group has completed two more acquisitions, the latest of a string of deals as part of its aggressive growth strategy.
Southport-based Fletchers, which LBN revealed in February is now worth around £240m, has acquired Durham-based EMG Solicitors and JE Bennett Law which has its headquarters in Kent. The value of both deals was undisclosed.
EMG specialises in Court of Protection practice and has offices across the North of England. Its most recent accounts, filed at Companies House, show annual revenues of more than £11m and net assets of around £4.8m.
This deal will see Fletchers created a dedicated Court of Protection and private client division. Fletchers 30-strong Court of Protection team will transfer into EMG.
JE Bennett Law, which has net assets of around £1.8m, will also be integrated into the new unit which will bring together more than 200 specialists.
These will be based across a national network of offices in Durham, Darlington, Newcastle, Penrith, Manchester, Reading and Tunbridge Wells, operating under the EMG brand.
EMG will sit alongside Fletchers Group’s other specialist legal businesses, including Fletchers Solicitors, Rayden Solicitors, Blume and Medical Law Services, benefiting from the Group’s scale, access to capital and continued investment in technology.
It will be led by EMG founder and chief executive Emma Gaudern, who will join Fletchers’ management board. It will continue to offer consumer legal services in residential conveyancing, wills and probate and family law.
JE Bennett Law is led by founder and managing partner Jane Bennett, who will join the leadership team of the expanded EMG business.
Fletchers Group chief executive Peter Haden said: “EMG and JE Bennett Law are two highly impressive, respected firms with deep expertise in Court of Protection and private client work.
“Bringing these teams together creates a specialist practice with real depth across the full spectrum of Court of Protection services, ranging from complex financial management and deputyships to high-value estates and trusts.”
Fletchers was founded in 1987 by Rob and Ed Fletcher and is one of the UK’s leading clinical negligence and specialist personal injury practices. Florida-based Sun Capital Partners acquired the business in 2021 in a deal believed to be worth almost £37m.
Since then the firm has expanded via multiple acquisitions. Employing more than 1,600 people, Fletchers now also operates more than 10 UK offices including bases in Liverpool and Manchester.
Its most recent accounts, for the 12 months to April 30, 2025, it revealed a year-on-year rise of 32% to just under £77m. The firm is targeting a £100m turnover.
