More than 30 employers will offer seasonal Christmas jobs as well as new permanent job and career opportunities at a jobs fair in Wirral this month. Tony McDonough reports
More than 30 employers will be on hand to meet jobseekers at a jobs fair in Birkenhead on Friday, September 19.
Taking place at Birkenhead Market’s covered outdoor space, next to Birkenhead Bus Station, from 11am to 2pm, this will be the latest in a series of jobs fairs organised by Wirral Council and funded by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
So far there have been four events attended by more than 1,600 people. Surveys of those who have attended previous events indicated that 24% of people who came had provisionally been offered a job or place on a training course.
Places at the forthcoming event can be booked in advance, or people can just turn up on the day. Employers from a variety of sectors will be offering a wide range of temporary seasonal roles, fixed term contracts and permanent vacancies.
Companies confirmed to be offering roles at the event so far include Argyle Satellite, United Utilities, Merseyside Police, Adada Care, Kiely Bros, Vistry, NHS Cheshire and Wirral Partnership and A&B Engineering.

Cllr Mark Skillicorn, chair of Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, said: “These jobs fair events have been incredibly successful in helping people get into work and training.
“They are a fantastic opportunity for both those looking for work or a new role, and for employers and training providers to meet potential employees and tap into the dedicated, skilled local talent we have here in Wirral.”
As well as the opportunity to apply for jobs, there will also be help available for those looking to join the workplace.
Representatives from ReachOut, the council’s commissioned worklessness support service, will be offering support on getting back into work, including CV and application advice.
