Morecrofts Solicitors, one of the region’s oldest law firms, is to relocate its head office to Cotton Yard in the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district.
The Bruntwood-owned development, part of the Cotton Exchange on Old Hall Street, will now undergo further refurbishment in the coming months to offer around 15,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art office space and a private courtyard.
Formerly occupied by Liverpool’s Register Office, the Grade II-listed space was once the international nerve centre of the city’s booming cotton industry.
The relocation to Cotton Yard follows Morecrofts’ 200th anniversary last year and is set to mark the beginning of a new era for the firm.
Managing partner Alison Lobb said:
“This is a very exciting time for Morecrofts. Our current head office on Tithebarn Street has served the firm fantastically well over the past ten years and whilst we’re sad to leave, this is an important step for us, as Cotton Yard provides the space and facilities to support all we want to achieve over the next ten years.
“Cotton Yard also puts us at the epicentre of Liverpool’s commercial district and, as the firm continues to grow, there’s no question that this is where we need to be.”
Colin Forshaw, head of property at Bruntwood, said:
“When we set about the refurbishment of Cotton Yard, we did so with the intention of attracting an established and forward-thinking professional services firm, and that’s exactly what we have achieved.
“Morecrofts is synonymous with Liverpool’s professional community, one of the city’s oldest independent law firms and simply a perfect customer for this new-look space. We’re pleased to see Morecrofts join an ever-expanding cluster of thriving businesses at Cotton Exchange and we can’t wait for them to make Cotton Yard their new home.”
The move will take place in late autumn following the Merseyside Independent Business Awards 2014, which was launched by Morecrofts last year to create a legacy for independent businesses and entrepreneurs in the Liverpool City Region and returns this year with a black tie dinner at Rum Warehouse at the Titanic Hotel on Thursday October 2.
