New data reveals fall in average white collar pay in Liverpool

Research from job site CV-Library also shows the number of people applying for white collar jobs in the city has plummeted by 8.5%. Tony McDonough reports

Pay and jobs applications both fell in Liverpool in January, CV-Library says

Average white collar pay fell by 1.8% in Liverpool in January, new data shows.

Using figures from its own files, one of the UK’s leading job sites, CV-Library, compared data from this January with that from January 2018.

Its research also showed the number of people applying for white collar jobs in the city plummeted by 8.5%. This was in sharp contrast to a 5.7% rise for the whole of the UK. There was a 2% increase in applications across the North West.

Despite these drops, there were 7.3% more job on offer in Liverpool than a year ago and 5% more in the North West region as a whole. Both figures surpassed the average job growth in the UK during this period, which sat at 2.8%.

Lee Biggins, chief executive and founder of CV-Library, said: “We know that January is typically one of the busiest months for job hunting, so it’s interesting that applications have dropped in the city.

“With most people choosing to move jobs in the hope of securing a salary increase, the dip in pay could have contributed to these figures, as well as the uncertainty around Brexit. If you’re hoping to find a new job this month, it’s definitely worth brushing up on your negotiation skills – you never know when these might come in handy.

Clearly, employers in the city are still pushing forward with their hiring efforts, despite offering lower pay. This is good news for eager job hunters and February tends to be another busy month for job hunting.”
